John 13:34-35New Living Translation (NLT)

34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

Recently I was talking to some Christian friends about a situation that came up concerning a believer’s behavior.
I asked them to give their response
as I listened to everyone, I was puzzled by how little compassion we can have when one of our “own” ( Christian brothers and sisters) are going through difficulties.
I, sadly, have been guilty of this as well.
God has revealed to me this is a time to love the hurt away in people
NOT lecture.
It also allowed me to see that we are only sympathetic if we have been in similar situations.
When we can’t understand what someone is going through we tend to dismiss their troubles and say ” they should do this or that”

As I look around at the limited people I know, I see a lot of hurt and pain
Have I added to the discomfort?
Have I done as Jesus commanded ? (not suggested)
Have I shown Love or Judgement?
Have I loved or lectured ?
Have I offered Christ?
Has my love seemed mean?

Can people tell that I am a disciple of Christ?

I may not understand what you are going through but I can listen
I may not be able to help you, but I can love you and pray God mercies towards you
I may not have the words to comfort you, but I can hug you
I don’t have to have the same viewpoint as you but we can have a non argumentative conversation
I don’t have to like the things you do, but I can love the person you are

I can do a lot of things for a lot of people but nothing is as great as following the commandment to love them just as Christ loves me.
