6 For a child is born to us,
a son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
And he will be called:
Wonderful Counselor,[a] Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

There is nothing quiet like the excitement of a baby coming. The expectant family has been preparing for months. Celebrations in abundance for the last 3 weeks making sure everyone has had the opportunity to give. Often Mom has made a list with her most requested items and we have made sure to accommodate her. Dad has proudly installed the car seat, ensuring a safe ride home…and the waiting begins, you are never sure of the exact time or date but you know its coming and it’s coming soon. One thing you do know. It’ s a BOY.

Our Lord and Savior was born many years ago but the anticipation of his birth still remains. We have replaced giving wise gifts that can be used later in life to the hottest toy on a TV commercial. We have gathered children’s list and accommodated their request, we have celebrated with numerous parties all in anticipation of someone else’s birthday.

What would happen if we only gave the birthday boy a gift? Would the commercial Christmas as we know it fall flat on its face? Would our hearts be lifted in joy at the sight of seeing family faces? Would our souls be free from competing with the neighbors? What would happen if Jesus reclaimed his birthday?

Just as the expectant father secured the car seat we should secure our seat to sit in Heavenly places.

On tomorrow, in the midst of your Christmas celebration take a moment to welcome the birthday boy.
