1 Kings 18:43-44 New Living Translation (NLT)
43 Then he said to his servant, “Go and look out toward the sea.”
The servant went and looked, then returned to Elijah and said, “I didn’t see anything.”
Seven times Elijah told him to go and look. 44 Finally the seventh time, his servant told him, “I saw a little cloud about the size of a man’s hand rising from the sea.”
I don’t know how many times I have given up mid stream before finishing something. Sometimes I lose interest, sometimes I change my mind, and there are other times I get tired of waiting and have reasoned that it must not be God’s will.
But here we find that we should keep looking. When God speaks to us and gives us directives it will happen, now when will it happen, that’s another issue.
Here Elijah is EXPECTING rain. God has answered his prayer and he begins to look for signs. He sends his servant to go look for clouds, the servant comes back and reports there has been no change in the atmosphere. Most of us give up immediately after the first “look” but Elijah keeps sending the guy back to look again and again.
Now the human side of me would’ve been like “sir, I have looked 4 times already”
However Elijah believes the words of God more than he believes what the servant says he sees with his eyes.
On the 7th trip to look for clouds the report has changed. The servant sees something, its small but it’s still something. This is all the sign Elijah needs, this is enough.
How many of us are waiting on a huge sign and overlooking the hand sized signs we are given.
I want to encourage you to look again, and again if you have to. Look again.
It’s getting ready to rain in your life. The rain is coming to replenish the dry areas you have given up on, you are getting ready to soak up favor and blessing. Your draught is over. Keep looking for the cloud, keep looking until you see it.
