Luke 13:6-9New Living Translation (NLT)
Parable of the Barren Fig Tree
6 Then Jesus told this story: “A man planted a fig tree in his garden and came again and again to see if there was any fruit on it, but he was always disappointed. 7 Finally, he said to his gardener, ‘I’ve waited three years, and there hasn’t been a single fig! Cut it down. It’s just taking up space in the garden.’
8 “The gardener answered, ‘Sir, give it one more chance. Leave it another year, and I’ll give it special attention and plenty of fertilizer. 9 If we get figs next year, fine. If not, then you can cut it down.’”
This scripture should encourage someone all by itself.
Many of us have a dream that just doesn’t seem to be taking off. We’ve tried everything. It’s not a complete failure but it’s not exactly producing fruit either. We are ready to cut this dream down and start planting other seeds.
Oh, but here comes that friend(s) I spoke on yesterday. We all need people in our lives to remind us not to give up. Even if it has been 3 years.
This farmer was tired of waiting on his fruit (dream) to produce. He has been patient, he checked on it often and still received no results. He was not only wasting his time, he was wasting space. Or so he thought.
He was given the encouragement he needed. “give it another year” But this time he would have help. This year would be different. This year he would have someone helping him water, fertilize and check on the tree with him.
God will send you help with the things you have grown tired of doing. So hold up, wait a minute. Don’t cut that tree down just yet.
Give it another year and see what happens.
