Genesis 32:26 Common English Bible
26 The man said, “Let me go because the dawn is breaking.” But Jacob said, “I won’t let you go until you bless me.”
Many of us are wrestling through the night with our problems. We have quoted the scripture “weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning” many times. Only to awake the next morning to a world that is perceived to offer little or no change.
We have prayed our 10 second prayer requesting, NO DEMANDING, that God fix this mess right now in Jesus Name. We secretly become bitter because we believe God isn’t listening. We have said in our heart HE doesn’t care.
But for some that have been wrestling with the issues that surround us, we are in this to win it. We recognize that we all go through. We recognize that trials come. We are not in denial about this, we fully accept it. What we don’t accept is wrestling all night, loosing precious hours of rejuvenation to wake up to more of the same.
No sir, if I am up at night during the hours I should be sleep you best believe I am going to get something out of it. I am going to pray until change happens. This can be a change in the situation or in the way I feel about the situation. Either way, change is coming.
The scripture above shows us exactly what to do. We have wrestled all night with situations. We have tossed and turned, tried to read, tried to watch TV, scrolled through Facebook and Instagram and still can’t go to sleep. Our minds won’t allow us to rest. Don’t waste those hours with useless activity. Get up and get down! Yes, get down on your knees and stay there until HE blesses you with an answer or with sleep.
Jacob held on, refusing to let go until he received his blessing. He was bold enough to state his purpose of holding on. Now is not the time to be shy with your request. I often tell people who I encounter “God can’t give you what you don’t know you want” God wants to bless you are you willing to hold on until to receive it.
